We just discovered a defect in Video Tube that affects those who are installing Video Tube for the first time. Video Display Format parameter under Video Tube Preferences is set to an incorrect value as it's default. This issue has been fixed in version 1.3 We also added a path assignment in user_features.php to address an issue in an older version of XOOPS in which some string variables were appearing in the Video Submission form instead of actual strings.

This release addresses a potential security issue that has been brought to our attention regarding the use of $HTTP_GET_VARS. In this version we have eliminated this segment of the code. If you are using Video Tube we highly recommend upgrading to v1.2 as soon as possible. This release also addresses a known bug in which the Next Page link is not always disabled when the last page appears.

This release also contains all of the corrections found in v1.1 such as proper operation of the administrator edit function and some blocks appearing twice based on certain templates. The major change is that all module templates and database interaction functions have been updated so the module works with XOOPS 2.0.16 and up PLUS it is now compatible with XOOPS 2.2.x sites. One new feature has been added so Registered User's Submissions can be Auto Approved.

The module provides configurable display formats, user submission interface, admin interface for reviewing and publishing videos, six different blocks including Random, Most Viewed and Latest, and a Video Help page to assist visitors in making video submissions.

Installation of the package was flawless. Everything worked exactly as advertised and the instructions were very user-friendly. We will be posting a tutorial on using Flash software to create and edit smilies (emoticons) for the chatroom.

Create A Module Series tutorials are now being developed. We will walk you through every step of creating your own XOOPS module. The first in the series is called EventCal which is an event calendar providing a calendar display page with all scheduled events as well as a couple Upcoming Events blocks for your home page. Users can submit their own events and the event entries can be either auto-approved or admin approval required based on your configuration settings. Here are a couple of screen captures:



The event listing can be displayed as either a calendar or a flat list. Plus each format also has a printer-friendly page available.



There is an admin interface and several configuration settings to customize the module to meet the user's needs. Keep in mind the tutorial series is a work in progress and any feedback you have is welcome.

Our latest project is Video Tube. It provides a clean and simple interface for displaying YouTube videos. We recently released version 1.1 which addresses compatibility issues so it now works with XOOPS 2.0.16 and up as well as XOOPS 2.2.x sites. We are currently looking at new features to incorporate including more configurable display options, addition of categories, addition of notifications, an additional block for adding a play video to any page on your site, and a submenu item for View By User. View By User will create a unique page displaying videos submitted by a specific registered user, in essence providing each user with their own personal video tube page.

Another module in the works is called Personal Pages. We started with the basic "profiles" module that is supplied with XOOPS and started hacking away. Some of the features offered are a detailed index page complete with avatar, username, location, number of views and the last time the page was updated. Re-ordering arrows are provided to sort the index listing based on username OR number of views OR last update, in ascending or descending order.



The actual personal page allows for uploading the user's photo, displaying a list of user interests, a description type write-up, link to the user's profile, link to the user's personal photo album, link to the user's website, link to the user's MySpace page, and embedding a YouTube video which the user defines.
